Esperance Hockey’s Niccole Cooper wins WA Volunteer of the Year

Esperance Hockey Association President, Niccole Cooper, was crowned the 2022 WA Good Sports Volunteer of the Year and the 2022 National Good Sports Runner Up Volunteer of the Year award for making her club stronger and more family-friendly, by going above and beyond the usual undertakings of a volunteer.

The mother of four has taken on various roles at the Association, including Committee member, Coach, Umpire and Captain. She became President in 2021. The Association said Niccole is reliable, patient, persistent, passionate, and committed.

“Nicole is our beating heart and champion. Despite being a working mum, she still manages to do so much for us, including dedicating long hours at the hockey fields during season. Sometimes she will umpire up to four games, and play herself, all in one day,” said Secretary Terri Herbert.

“Niccole ensures our juniors have the chance to be included in carnivals and state trials, by organising trips from Esperance several times a year. This is a huge feat, as it means taking a bus load of kids, 800km to Perth, to compete and showcase their skills and talent,” Terri added.

Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at Parliament House, Canberra in February 2023, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, their members and making their club the very best it can be.
