Collingwood Park Power AFC wins Community Club Award
Collingwood Park Power Australian Football Club was celebrated at the Good Sports Awards at Parliament House in Canberra in late March, for its strong commitment to promoting positive health and wellbeing.
The star club won three Good Sports Awards:
- Good Sports Community Club Award, for its impact on the local community, including its commitment to preventing and reducing harms from alcohol and other drugs.
- Winner of the Good Sports Queensland Club of the Year Award, for going above and beyond the requirements of the highest level of the Good Sports program.
- Runner-up for the Good Sports Junior Club of the Year Award for making sport healthier for juniors by limiting alcohol exposure, promoting a smoke and vape-free environment, and encouraging positive spectator behaviour.
A small club with a big heart
As a Gold Accredited Good Sports club, Collingwood Park Power AFC has a policy that covers alcohol and tobacco management, illegal drugs, mental health, safe transport, and supporting junior members.
Club spokesperson, CJ Mulvogue, said what really makes the club a standout is its strong sense of community and belonging.
“We’re a small club with a big heart. Everyone knows each other, and we look out for one another on and off the field. Our values of inclusion, respect, and family guide everything we do, from how we play and coach, to how we support our players, volunteers, and families,” CJ explained.
Living by our values
“Collingwood Park Power joined the Good Sports program to build on our strong community culture and ensure our club is safe, supportive, and family-friendly. We’re more than just a footy club, we’re a place where people belong. Good Sports aligns with our values and helps us lead by example and promote positive habits on and off the field.”
“We don’t just meet the requirements, we live them. Our focus is on creating a safe, family-friendly environment where every player, volunteer, and supporter feels valued, respected, and connected. We might be a small club, but our spirit, connection, and commitment to community make us mighty. We are a club where everyone belongs and everyone has the power to shine.”
Celebrating a diverse membership
“We’re proud to be one of the first multicultural club hubs in the region, creating a safe and welcoming space that celebrates diversity and encourages cultural representation across all levels of the game,” CJ added.
“We work closely with local schools to promote participation and pathways for young people, and we actively support players through sponsorships to make sure cost is never a barrier to playing. Our focus on disability inclusion ensures everyone has the chance to be part of the Power family.”
The club will receive a cash prize for its achievements, which will go towards upgrades to the canteen, new football equipment and the delivery of free community football programs.
