Smoking and vaping management

Every state and territory has smoking and vaping laws.

Smoke and vape free

Good Sports clubs are encouraged to be smoke-free and vape-free and to role model positive behaviour for young people and children at the club.

For those clubs that still allow smoking and vaping in clearly defined areas, there are laws for each state and territory you must follow (find the info for your state/territory below).

As you progress through the Good Sports program, you’ll cover smoking and vaping management in your policy.

Once this is in place, make sure everyone knows the policy and understands the rules. This way, staff and volunteers can get behind your club’s position and will know how to deal with someone smoking/vaping in a banned area.

If you’re a smoke-free zone, clear no smoking and no vaping signs will also promote healthy behaviour and remind people that smoking/vaping is not acceptable at your club.

Know your states' smoking and vaping laws

If you allow smoking anywhere in or around your club there are strict Government rules. Good Sports has pulled together these handy fact sheets as guides for each state and territory on the smoking law requirements for your area.

These resources will ensure your club stays on the right side of the law and provides the best environment for members and visitors.

You also need to be aware that your local council might have its own rules around smoking as well.
