Pyramid Hill Football Netball Club has been crowned Good Sports Safe Transport Club of the Year. They were honoured at the national Good Sports Awards in Canberra.

Good Sports clubs from across the country were today honoured at Parliament House for their commitment to building healthy and inclusive environments, where members look out for one another around alcohol and tobacco management, safe transport, healthy eating, mental health and positive spectator behavior.

Pyramid Hill Football Netball Club was chosen as the Good Sports Safe Transport Club of the Year for its strong commitment to road safety. It receives $1000 for its achievement.

Safe transport initiatives through social media

The club organises transport home from club events. In addition, they actively promote safe transport initiatives through social media and announcements from senior leadership.

President Bruce Moon says the Good Sports program has helped the club build a culture that prioritises the health and safety of its members.

An effective vehicle to deliver safety messages

“There are too many lives lost through road accidents around here. Road deaths are over-represented in our rural area. Our community recognises that Pyramid Hill Football Netball Club is an effective vehicle to deliver safety messages. Particularly for young people and families,” Mr Moon said.

“In small rural communities like Pyramid Hill the local football netball club has the ability to impact positively on the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of our young people and their families. Good Sports helps us so we can it right,” Mr Moon added.
