Tasmanian University FC wins TAS Club of the Year

Tasmanian University Football Club has been named the 2024 Good Sports Tasmanian Club of the Year for its commitment to fostering a welcoming, family-friendly environment and reducing harm from alcohol and other drugs.

Former President Member Luke Bartulovic said the club joined Good Sports to help promote healthy and inclusive sports experiences for members.

“Since joining Good Sports, we’ve seen significant positive changes that have strengthened our club culture and deepened our impact on the community. The program has provided us with invaluable resources, guidance, and a framework for fostering healthier and more inclusive practices,” Luke said.

Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in April 2025, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, reducing harms from alcohol and other drugs, and making their club the very best it can be.

Mental health front and centre

“We’re committed to ensuring our club is a safe, supportive, and inclusive space where all members, regardless of background, feel valued. By championing diversity, we create opportunities for everyone to participate, learn, and grow in a respectful environment.”

This commitment is reflected in the club’s award-winning mental health program, which was recognised with the 2022 Good Sports Mental Health Excellence Award.

The club also runs initiatives to educate members on preventing sexual harassment and abuse, while actively fundraising for local community causes.

Tasmanian University FC has achieved the highest level of the Good Sports program, implementing policies covering alcohol and tobacco management, illegal drugs, mental health, and safe transport.
