Charlie Mock wins SA Volunteer of the Year Award

Charlie Mock from Moana Districts Soccer Club was named the 2023 Good Sports SA Volunteer of the Year. She was recognised for being the beating heart of her club and going beyond the usual undertakings of a volunteer.

Club President Debs Huxford said Charlie has been an inspiration, taking the time to get to know everyone and understand their individual circumstances.

“Charlie has played a significant role in the management of Moana Districts Soccer Club for several years, recently taking on additional roles including being the main key holder and contact for members,” Debs said.

Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at Parliament House, Canberra in February 2024, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, their members and making their club the very best it can be.

A role model for women in sport

Charlie is a busy woman! She still manages to support her two children playing in different teams, fulfil her role as a team manager, support the club with social media management and attend association meetings.

“Charlie is an inspiration to others proving that even with limited soccer knowledge and experience, you can step up to the challenge and learn to coach and manage and do a fantastic job. This is especially encouraging for other females within our club and the local soccer community who may be considering taking this leap.”
