East Torrens Baseball Club wins SA Club of the Year
East Torrens Baseball Club was crowned South Australia Good Sports Club of the Year for their holistic approach to building a supportive and inclusive environment for members to stay active and healthy.
“Maintaining a safe and caring environment for our members is a responsibility we take seriously at East Torrens Baseball Club – not just through supporting their physical wellbeing and mental health, but also prioritising inclusivity so everyone in our multicultural community feels welcome,” said club Secretary Angela Probert.
“Good Sports supports us to achieve this vision through the program’s guidance, direction and support for all our policies, procedures and requirements in order for us to run a successful season each year.”
The club has a large community of Venezuelan immigrants, all who find comfort in a shared love - the love of the sport of baseball. There are also other members from many other cultures.
East Torrens is committed to gender equality and has prioritised a first-class women and girls’ program.

After some personal tragedies occurred in the club community, members and families pulled together to support one another.
“Our responsibility to maintain a safe, caring environment has extended not only to this club’s families but also to the men, players and children who shared their lives with these lost members, honouring their families and continuing to support the grieving process of teammates,” said Angela.
The baseballers and their families know that at East Torrens, they’ve found a home.
The Good Sports Awards are the ultimate trophy for any Good Sports club, paying tribute to the heart and soul of community sporting clubs – no matter their size or sporting code.
Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation in Melbourne in March 2022, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, their members and making their club the very best it can be.
