Powerblades Dragon Boat Club wins SA Club of the Year

Powerblades Dragon Boat Racing Club of SA won the 2022 SA Good Sports Club of the Year Award, for adopting practices and strategies to improve the wellbeing of their members, inspiring positive change and building a healthier, more family-friendly club environment where everyone feels welcome.

“Our club is committed to providing a friendly, safe and fun environment for everyone. We are focussed on building the sport through a safe, fun and open programme of training that encompasses people of all levels. We are proud to have reached the highest level of the Good Sports program,” said Volunteer Coordinator, Tasha Youngman.

Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at Parliament House, Canberra in February 2023, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, their members and making their club the very best it can be.

Everyone welcome at Powerblades

Established in 1989, the club says it is one of the longest running Dragon Boat Clubs in Australia, and has members ranging from 23 to 76-years-old. The club prides itself on its inclusiveness and for having a strong focus on community and mental health awareness.

“Our members understand and support a healthy, inclusive environment for everyone to participate in training at different levels and abilities. Our culture is supportive outside of training, our members socialise together, travel together and offer general support for health and wellbeing at all levels,” Tasha said.
