Golden Grove Football Club crowned SA Club of the Year
Golden Grove Football Club has been named the 2024 Good Sports South Australian Club of the Year for its commitment to fostering a welcoming, family-friendly environment and reducing harm from alcohol and other drugs.
Club Secretary Emma McNab said that the club has been a part of the Good Sports program for many years.
“We initially joined to strengthen our knowledge of policies and procedures within the sporting club realm. However, we continue to be members as it provides us with support in maintaining a positive and inclusive environment,” Emma said.
Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in April 2025, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, reducing harms from alcohol and other drugs, and making their club the very best it can be.
Supportive environment for all ages
“With over 100 Auskick participants, 600 junior members and 150 senior members, we strive to ensure our club has an inclusive and safe environment for all playing members, volunteers, and their families and friends who come to support them.”
“The club's culture has always been one of a large extended family, so alcohol consumption is served responsibility and is kept to a minimum during our junior games.”
“We ensure that whenever there is alcohol being served at the club, it is served by a person who holds a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Certificate. Our bar does not open during junior games on a Sunday to avoid people drinking early and around our youngest and most easily influenced members.”
Golden Grove Football Club has achieved the highest level of the Good Sports program, implementing policies that cover alcohol and tobacco management, illegal drugs, mental health, and safe transport.
