Sally McWilliams crowned QLD Volunteer of the Year
Sally McWilliams has been named the Queensland Volunteer of the Year and the national runner-up Volunteer of the Year, recognising her outstanding dedication to the Gold Coast Hockey community.
Kendra Murphy from Gold Coast Hockey said Sally’s impact on the club is immeasurable, with her selfless contributions fostering a welcoming and connected environment.
"Sally is the heart and soul of our association – she’s always there, always helping, and always putting others first,” Kendra said.
Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in April 2025, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, reducing harms from alcohol and other drugs, and making their club the very best it can be.
A big impact on her community
“Whether she’s managing representative teams, coordinating uniforms, running fundraisers, or stepping into our mascot costume to entertain kids, Sally does it all with warmth and positivity,” said Kendra.
"Beyond the visible tasks, it’s the little things that truly define Sally’s impact. She supports members through personal challenges, quietly steps in where help is needed, and ensures everyone feels valued and included. She is the glue that holds our community together.
"Sally’s leadership has also strengthened our commitment to the Good Sports values of health and wellbeing. She has helped create a family-friendly environment that prioritises safety and connection while reducing risks associated with alcohol and drug harm.
“Her dedication to inclusivity and community spirit embodies everything Good Sports stands for and we are incredibly proud to have her as part of our club."
