Federal CC crowned NT Club of the Year

Federal Cricket Club was crowned Northern Territory Good Sports Club of the Year for using the Good Sports program to proactively implement policies that create a safer and healthier environment for all their members.

“Good Sports has helped us encourage positive behaviours on and off the field, with a large focus on junior development, through the support and resources provided through the program,” said Club President Shannan Ryan.

“We pride ourselves on being proactive in tackling issues before they occur by setting a high standard of expected behaviour and encouraging our members to engage in healthier habits around the club as well as out in the community, specifically when it comes to smoking, alcohol and drugs.”

Increasing women’s cricket participation

At Federal CC, they facilitate a connection between junior and senior members and are mindful of creating a safe environment to ensure they are inclusive.

In recent years, the club has increased their participation numbers in cricket for youth, women and from a variety of cultures. They now have three girls’ and women’s cricket sides - open age, under 11s and under 13s.

They have also seen great improvements overall since joining the Good Sports program.

“We feel we increase our sustainability by practising good governance and making ourselves more attractive to sponsors and grant funding. Good Sports has helped guide us through adopting policies to create a safe environment for all,” said Shannan.

The Good Sports Awards are the ultimate trophy for any Good Sports club, paying tribute to the heart and soul of community sporting clubs – no matter their size or sporting code.

Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation in Melbourne in March 2022, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, their members and making their club the very best it can be.
