Manly United FC wins NSW Club of the Year

Manly United Football Club was named the 2022 NSW Good Sports Club of the Year. It was recognised for adopting practices and strategies to improve the health and wellbeing of its members, inspiring positive change and building a healthier, and family-friendly club environment.

“Manly United prides itself on providing an inclusive and friendly environment to give our players the best possible opportunity to become better players and better people,” said CEO of Manly United Football Club and the Manly Warringah Football Association, David Mason.

“Winning this award gives us internal confirmation that we are on the right track but also public recognition that we have and will continue to be a club built on our safe and positive environment.”

Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at Parliament House, Canberra in February 2023, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, their members and making their club the very best it can be.

Family club through and through

Having reached the highest level of the Good Sports program, the club has a policy that covers alcohol and tobacco management, illegal drugs, mental health and safe transport.

David says the club prides itself on changes it has made to its off-field culture, by creating a new space that has a strong focus on families and community.

"We now have a thriving bistro, a cafe that operates seven days a week and a place for our young players to relax, do homework and meet before they start training. It is now a family club where players, their teammates and families can gather before, during and after matches. Local football clubs and community groups have also started to use the space for meetings and other events,” David said.
