Port Adelaide District Baseball Club wins Mental Health Excellence Award
Port Adelaide District Baseball Club has been awarded the Mental Health Excellence Award for its unwavering commitment to promoting wellbeing, inclusivity, and mental health awareness.
Club spokesperson Natasha Voice said the club is dedicated to fostering a culture where mental health is prioritised just as much as athletic performance.
“Our club is more than just a place to play baseball – we are a family. We’ve worked hard to ensure every member feels valued, supported, and comfortable speaking openly about mental health,” Natasha said.
Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in April 2025, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, reducing harms from alcohol and other drugs, and making their club the very best it can be.
Proactive mental health support
The club said it has taken a proactive approach by hosting mental health workshops, training committee members in Mental Health First Aid, and creating clear pathways for members to seek support.
“We want to normalise mental health conversations. Our committee leads by example, ensuring members feel safe discussing challenges and accessing the support they need. Seeking help should always be seen as a strength, never a weakness,” Natasha continued.
One of the club’s most significant initiatives is the launch of the Miracle League of Port Adelaide, Australia’s first baseball league for children with mental and physical disabilities.
“The Miracle League removes barriers to participation, allowing kids to experience the joy of baseball while building a sense of belonging beyond the game, and it’s been an incredible success,” Natasha explained.
“Winning this award highlights our commitment to making a real difference in our community. We’re proud to be a club that prioritises mental health, inclusion, and a safe, supportive environment for all.”
