3rd April, 2025 — Good Sports awards
Dominoes Basketball’s Daniel Ogg crowned TAS Volunteer of the Year
Club President Daniel Ogg of Dominoes Basketball Club has been awarded the 2024 Good Sports Tasmanian Volunteer of the Year, recognised as a champion who makes his community sporting club stronger and more family-friendly by going above and beyond the usual undertakings of a volunteer.
The club was also named the runner-up 2024 Good Sports Tasmanian Club of the Year for its commitment to fostering a welcoming environment and reducing harm from alcohol and other drugs.
Committee Member Angela Ogg said Good Sports has been instrumental in helping the club educate families about the harms of alcohol and other drugs while encouraging healthier choices through grassroots sport.
“Being part of Good Sports has helped us shift attitudes towards alcohol, vaping, and other drug use, creating a safer and more positive club environment,” Angela said.
Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in April 2025, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, reducing harms from alcohol and other drugs, and making their club the very best it can be.
A family club that feels like a family
“Dominoes is more than just a club – it’s a family. We embrace positive behaviours and provide a welcoming space where everyone can participate, regardless of ability, age, race, religion, culture, or beliefs.”
Angela also highlighted Daniel’s unwavering dedication to the club.
“Daniel has been part of Dominoes since his junior years. In 2016, he set out to build a dedicated female program – thanks to his years of hard work, our female teams are thriving, keeping more young people engaged in sport,” Angela explained.
“Daniel’s ability to connect with children and mentor them in a kind, positive, and respectful way is widely praised. He has supported participants facing challenges at school and young people with autism spectrum disorders, helping them develop confidence and life skills that benefit not just them, but their families as well.”
Dominoes Basketball Club’s efforts have seen it as the proud winner of many awards over the past few years, including the 2023 Good Sports Tasmanian Club of the Year.
