Bruce Rossel from Western District Rugby FC named ACT Volunteer of the Year

Bruce Rossel from the Western District Rugby Football Club was awarded the 2022 ACT Good Sports Volunteer of the Year Award.

“Bruce is not only a member of the Executive but also a friend that our players can turn to if they need help, or to just have a chat for their mental health and wellbeing,” said Committee Member Fiona Austine.

Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at Parliament House, Canberra in February 2023, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, their members and making their club the very best it can be.

Western District Rugby better with Bruce around

Despite only joining the club around five years ago, Bruce has taken on many roles at the club, including player, Manager, Secretary and friend.

“Bruce makes our club so much better with him being in it, as he is very personable and helps whenever he can with anything asked of him. You know all is good when Bruce is on the job, given the many hats he wears. He's an unsung hero at our club,” Fiona added.

Western District Rugby Football Club has reached the highest level of the Good Sports program, which means it has a policy that covers alcohol and tobacco management, illegal drugs, mental health and safe transport.
