Carly Taylor from Abilities Unlimited is ACT Volunteer champion

Carly Taylor from Abilities Unlimited Australia was named the 2023 Good Sports ACT Volunteer of the Year. She was recognised for being the beating heart of her club and going beyond the usual undertakings of a volunteer.

Abilities Unlimited Australia President, Fiona Jarvis, said Carly's exceptional contributions to the club align seamlessly with the values and principles upheld by the Good Sports program.

“As the Vice Chair of our club, Carly has championed inclusivity, ensuring that every child, irrespective of their abilities or health challenges, can access the benefits of sport,” Fiona said.

Hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at Parliament House, Canberra in February 2024, the Awards ceremony recognised Good Sports clubs and their dedicated volunteers from across the country who are passionate about community, their members and making their club the very best it can be.

One volunteer’s incredible impact

Carly’s impact on the club has been big. It includes overhauling policies, developing strong governance, and championing diverse and inclusive leadership teams.

“Whether it's her inspiring leadership, her boundless enthusiasm for inclusivity, her unwavering support for volunteers and families, or her selfless dedication to the community, her passion radiates in everything she does,” Fiona said.

“Carly's tireless support for volunteers, staff, and families, along with her dedication to recognition and appreciation, fosters a culture of respect and responsibility within our club.”

“Her dedication to making a positive impact on children's lives, particularly those with disabilities and chronic illnesses, is unparalleled and extends far into the wider community.”
