Kids say Listen Up!
Negative Nancys and Dale Downers beware, there will be no room for negativity at local sporting clubs this winter!
The Shoosh for Kids initative, launched by NSW Health, is encouraging positive sideline behaviour at all junior clubs in New South Wales. Throughout the week, clubs will be working together to remind parents that the focus of junior sport is on fun and having a go, not competition or winning.
Negative sideline behaviour hurts everyone. It takes away from the enjoyment of players, fans and officials and can reduce volunteer numbers and participation rates.
“Most people do the right thing. However, the sports we are working with want to remind spectators that there is no place for negative comments in our local sports,” said Joanne Barrett, Development Officer with Sport and Recreation.
“We want to ensure that all players, officials and spectators experiences are positive,” Ms Barrett said.
How to participate
Good Sports is encouraging all clubs to let kids be kids and support this awesome initiative. The official campaign is being held from the 15th to 21st May.
