Port Adelaide Soccer Club kicks another goal

Port Adelaide Lion Soccer Club’s dedication to responsible alcohol management has resulted in the club receiving its level 2 Good sports accreditation.

Club secretary, Sally Hall, said the main focus of the club is about promoting healthy lifestyle through participation in sport.

“While we still want to be able to provide alcohol to our members, we don’t want to be seen by members and the community as a club with a drinking culture. We want to serve and drink alcohol responsibly. We’ve done this through having bar staff that are trained in the Responsible Service of Alcohol. We have displayed Good Sports signage in areas where alcohol is served, on our website and in our publications. We have also followed all the management strategies correctly,” she said.

Ms Hall said as a result of Good Sports participation, the club had had more success with grants, increased its club membership, retention of volunteers, improved family-friendly environment, less alcohol focused events and greater education and awareness around alcohol related issues.

“It has helped to enhance our reputation as a family friendly club. We have had more success in winning grants since our involvement in the Good Sports. We have had many new players come to our club from clubs not involved in Good Sports,” Ms Hall said.
