Macleay Valley Mustangs RLFC become Kempsey’s first Good Sports Accredited Club
Continuing on from their successful Grand Final wins the Macleay Valley Mustangs RLFC has achieved another important milestone by becoming the first sporting club in Kempsey to be accredited at Level 1 of the Good Sports program.
Club President, Mike Spalding said their participation with Good Sports was helping to promote a healthy lifestyle, especially for young people.
“By participating in the Good Sports program we are able to implement alcohol management policies that not only reduce risky drinking within the club, but also educate the wider community and provide them with a safe environment to enjoy sport,” Mr Spalding says.
The Mustangs will now work to move through the next two levels over two years.
Former Newcastle Knights player and now Goods Sports Northern NSW Regional Manager, Marc Glanville, said alcohol was a leading cause of preventable illness and death in Australia and Good Sports helped clubs build stronger, healthier communities.
“By participating in Good Sports, the Mustangs are demonstrating their continued commitment to providing a safe, healthy and fun environment not just for players but also members, families and the entire Kempsey community,” he said.
