La Perouse Sharks Cricket Club reach Sydney milestone
The La Perouse Sharks Cricket Club may be a small club, but when it comes to alcohol and sport, the club has got its messages sorted. The club recently became Good Sports accredited, a program of the Australian Drug Foundation, and is also the 300th Sydney sporting club to join the program. The club has been instrumental in the Indigenous community by encouraging participation, especially from its young people, and as a result, many representatives in the NSW Aboriginal cricket team have come from the club. Sydney Good Sports Regional Manager, Russel Grimson, said La Perouse Sharks CC’s accreditation and 300th Sydney club milestone has earmarked where Good Sports is heading in the future. “This club was started from scratch, by Peter Cooley, and every year he has been chasing funds to keep it running to enable kids and adults from a lower social economic background the chance to take part in sporting opportunities.” “This club is proof that the program is reaching every type of community and is making a real difference,” he said.
