Good Sports: 5000 clubs and growing
From Archery to Wrestling, five thousand sporting clubs are now part of the Good Sports program across Australia. This remarkable achievement shows how much community sporting clubs appreciate the responsible drinking model as well as the support from program staff.
Good Sports is an alcohol management program operating since 2000 that helps any community sporting club strengthen their membership and community relations by promoting a culture of responsible drinking. With over 10 years of research evidence, the Good Sports program has been found to reduce harmful drinking, behaviour and drink driving while helping clubs increase members, sponsorships, revenue and public image.
More than 100 Project Officers ‘around the ground’ work with individual clubs to create a strong delivery network for the Good Sports program. Project Officers meet with sporting club committees and advise and support them in their club operations and licensing obligations with a 3-step Accreditation Program.
With program growth of 20% each year, more and more clubs are signing on. Each club promises to be as important as those original pilots as the Good Sports program continues to grow and support communities to become safer, healthier, more family-friendly places.
